A gram is a taste, an eighth (3.5g) is the standard try-it size, a quarter (7g) is the value step, and a zip (28g) is where price per gram bottoms out. The right amount depends on how often you’ll actually open the jar — and whether your cart clears free shipping at $99.

Every size below is in our THCA flower collection, priced out gram-for-gram so you can see the math before you add anything to the cart.

Grams to Eighths to Zips: The Full Conversion Table

Weed quantities sound like a secret language until you see them side by side. They’re not. Every street name maps to one number: grams.

Size Grams Also called
Zip 28g Ounce
Half 14g Half zip, half ounce
Quarter 7g Quad
Eighth 3.5g Slice
Gram 1g Dime (sometimes)

Zip, Half, Quarter, Eighth, Gram — What Each Size Actually Is

A gram is a taste. Fine for testing a strain, too small to be a real order once shipping enters the picture.

An eighth is 3.5 grams. That’s the size most people start with, and it’s the default unit on our menu.

A quarter is two eighths, 7 grams. Same flower, bigger jar, better per-gram price.

A half is 14 grams. A zip is 28 — a full ounce, and the largest common quantity. The jump from eighth to zip is 8x the flower, and the price-per-gram drop is where the real decisions live. The rest of this page is about making those decisions with numbers instead of vibes.

How Long Each Quantity Lasts (Occasional vs. Regular Buyers)

How long does an eighth last? Depends how often you open the jar, and both answers are normal.

Federal survey data backs that up. In the 2024 International Cannabis Policy Study, 48.4% of past-month consumers used cannabis 21 to 30 of the previous 30 days, while 19.6% used it just 1 to 5 days. Some of you reach for the jar most days. Some of you a few times a month. Neither is wrong. But they shouldn’t buy the same amount.

Your pattern What an eighth looks like What a zip looks like
A few times a month Lasts the month, stays fresh Probably sits too long
A few days a week About two weeks A couple of months
Most days A few days Roughly a month

Matching Your Purchase Size to Your Actual Habits

Don’t ask “how much should I buy.” Ask “how fast will I finish this while it’s still good.” An eighth that lasts you a month is a perfect purchase. A zip that lasts you six months is money sitting in a jar losing freshness. Match the size to the calendar, not to the deal.

Price Per Gram: What Each Quantity Actually Costs

Nationally, people paid about $8.60 a gram for flower in 2024, per the same ICPS survey data. That’s roughly $30 for an eighth at average pricing.

Our Greenhouse tier starts at $22 for 3.5 grams. That’s $6.29 a gram — under the national average before you even hit the bulk tiers.

Tier Starting price Per gram Best for
Private Reserve From $13 (gram) $13.00/g at single grams; drops at larger sizes Top-shelf jars, small-batch flower
Greenhouse From $22 (eighth) $6.29/g The everyday workhorse
Small Buds Current batch pricing Priced below Greenhouse Maximum flower per dollar

Private Reserve vs. Greenhouse vs. Small Buds, Compared Gram-for-Gram

Private Reserve is our top shelf. Single grams run $13, which is the wrong way to buy it — the per-gram price drops meaningfully at eighths and up, and the full breakdown is in our THCA flower pricing guide.

Greenhouse is where the math gets interesting. At $6.29 a gram, two Greenhouse eighths cost $44. A national-average eighth costs about $30 alone.

Small Buds are the same flower, smaller nugs, lowest price per gram. If your grinder doesn’t care about bag appeal, this tier stretches a budget further than anything else on the menu.

The pattern across all three tiers: per-gram price falls as quantity rises. The next section is about the two costs that math leaves out.

Bulk vs. Small: The Freshness and Shipping Math

Bulk wins on price per gram. It loses on time. Flower is plant matter, and it doesn’t wait for you. Research on stored cannabis flower found that elevated humidity significantly decreases cannabinoid concentrations over time — a big order that sits in a humid closet is quietly getting weaker, and weaker flower is money you already spent. That’s why storage matters as much as price (our storage guide covers the jar-and-cool-dark-place basics).

Then there’s shipping. Orders over $99 ship free. At $13 grams, $99 is seven and a half grams of Private Reserve. At $22 eighths, it’s four and a half. If your cart is close, one more eighth usually beats paying shipping. If your cart is nowhere near $99, forcing it just to hit a threshold is the wrong move — an eighth that arrives fresh beats a zip that sits.

One more thing before you size up: THCA flower does not ship to Arkansas, Idaho, Minnesota, Oregon, or Rhode Island. State rules shift, so check our shipping policy before you build a big cart.

When a Zip Makes Sense (and When It Doesn’t)

A zip makes sense if you open the jar most days, you have a storage setup that actually works, and the per-gram math on the tier you want drops hard at 28 grams. It doesn’t make sense if you partake a few times a month, you’re testing a new strain, or the only reason you’re buying it is the free-shipping line. Sometimes two eighths now beats a zip that sits. The deal is only a deal if the flower is still good when you get to the bottom of the jar.

Why Smaller Quantities Stretch Further Than They Used To

Old buying rules were written for weaker flower. Federal research tracking cannabis potency found average THC content rose from roughly 1% in 1973 to nearly 16% by 2025, per Bureau of Economic Analysis research on cannabis potency trends. Flower today is far stronger than what those rules assumed, which means the same purchase lasts a longer calendar than it did for the people who wrote the “always buy the ounce” advice. Smaller quantities stretch further than they used to. Buy for your calendar, not for a rule of thumb from a different decade.

Buying THCA Flower Online: What to Know Before You Order

You must be 21 or older to order from Asheville Dispensary.

THCA flower is hemp under the 2018 Farm Bill, which is why it can ship to most states with no medical card required. The market is young. The modern THCa hemp market really started in 2023, and states are still writing their own rules. Washington, California, Alaska, and others have already restricted hemp products with any total THC, and more states will follow. That’s why our checkout checks your address before you pay, and why THCA does not ship to AR, ID, MN, OR, or RI.

All products contain less than 0.3% hemp-derived Delta-9 THC in compliance with the 2018 Farm Bill.

Checking Lab Results Before You Buy

Every batch we sell is tested by DEA-certified labs, and the full panel for every product lives on our COA page. Check the batch on your jar against the lab results before you buy anything, from us or anyone. If a shop won’t show you a COA, that tells you everything. Our full guide to buying THCA flower online walks through the whole checklist.
